Bring your questions. Help us understand a changing living world.

We are the Eco-Evo Dynamical Resilience Lab at the Centre for Ecological Sciences, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru. We study how ecological and evolutionary processes shape species coexistence, adaptation, network structure and resilience. Our work connects mathematical and computational models with empirical data, microcosm experiments and fieldwork in India.

We welcome curiosity about biological systems, a willingness to learn quantitative approaches, and ideas that connect with our research themes.

Internships and research projects

Students interested in theoretical ecology, evolutionary biology, mathematical modelling or data-driven research are welcome to get in touch. Tell us what interests you, what you would like to learn, and when and for how long you would be available. Projects depend on research fit and mentoring capacity. We cannot currently offer a paid internship.

Postdoctoral researchers

We welcome enquiries from prospective postdocs interested in developing a fellowship proposal aligned with the lab’s research. There is currently no lab-funded postdoctoral position. Potential avenues include:

Please contact us before preparing an application so we can discuss research fit, the proposed project and the relevant fellowship route. Fellowship support is subject to the scheme’s selection process and institutional requirements.

How to get in touch

Email Gaurav Baruah at gbaruahecoevo@gmail.com, with:

  • A short introduction and your research interests.
  • Your CV and any relevant research, coding or project experience.
  • Your intended dates and duration for an internship, or a brief research idea and intended fellowship for a postdoc.

Lab culture

Question openly; learn together

Everyone should feel able to question assumptions, challenge the supervisor and one another, propose alternative explanations, and discuss failed experiments or negative results without embarrassment. No one is perfect. Setbacks are part of research, and we learn from them together. Feedback should address ideas, methods and evidence, never attack individuals.

Respect is non-negotiable

Everyone deserves professional treatment, irrespective of seniority, background, gender, nationality, career stage or scientific disagreement. Harassment, bullying, humiliation, discrimination, retaliation and abuse of hierarchical power are unacceptable.

Research integrity and reproducibility

Data must never be fabricated, misleadingly altered or selectively omitted to favour a conclusion. We document and retain raw data, analysis scripts, metadata and analytical decisions, including the reasons for any exclusions. Wherever possible, a documented workflow should reproduce the figures and statistical results directly from the raw data.
